Radisys Announces New Trillium TOTALeNodeB LTE Small Cell Solution

TOTALeNodeB provides telecom equipment manufacturers with a completely integrated LTE eNodeB that cuts development time in half

HILLSBORO, OR, U.S. – February 21, 2012 – Radisys Corporation (NASDAQ: RSYS), a leading provider of embedded wireless infrastructure solutions, today announced Trillium TOTALeNodeB, a complete software solution that dramatically simplifies the development and integration of LTE small cells while cutting the typical product development time in half. TOTALeNodeB builds upon the award-winning Trillium LTE protocol stacks, leveraging Radisys’ leading expertise in LTE technology solutions.

The explosion in mobile broadband usage is driving the migration from 3G to LTE, but operators need solutions now that will enable them to quickly and cost-effectively keep up with data traffic growth during the transition. Small cell solutions supplement LTE coverage and help manage network capacity. Telecom equipment manufacturers (TEMs) need to be able to provide operators with small cell solutions that get them to market quickly and meet their specific requirements.

Radisys’ Trillium TOTALeNodeB provides TEMs with a complete, integrated LTE eNodeB that is verified across leading small cell system on a chip (SoC) platforms from Radisys’ premier silicon partners. The software is flexible enough to be used with any operating system on any chipset, enabling TEMs to choose from a variety of SoCs and transfer to a new silicon platform as market dynamics require. This is critical as the market for small cells continues to grow and requirements vary across mobile operators.

TOTALeNodeB enables TEMs to comply with operators’ specific requirements, while reducing time to market and financial risk. TOTALeNodeB is provided as source code so TEMs can customize and enhance the product to meet specific operator requirements or leverage Radisys professional services to customize it to the required specifications. Radisys provides interoperability testing, technical support during the rollout, and ongoing maintenance to ensure the integrated solution works with the operator’s network properly.

TOTALeNodeB includes the Trillium LTE eNodeB application, radio resource management (RRM), radio environment monitoring (REM), self-organizing network (SON), schedulers and all of the Trillium protocol layers. Its modular design provides the flexibility for TEMs to choose to leverage Radisys’ off-the-shelf RRM, SON and scheduling algorithms or to implement custom algorithms.

As LTE rolls out, operators will still need to support a mixed subscriber base for both 3G and LTE services, and therefore will need to provide both technologies during the migration. TEMs can combine TOTALeNodeB with Radisys’ Femtotality3G WCDMA small cell solution to create a dual-mode small cell deployment of both technologies. Dual mode small cells enable the operator to serve their mixed 3G and LTE customer base while reducing backhaul bandwidth cost, reducing site acquisition costs and reducing the cost of the infrastructure itself rather than deploying separate systems.
