What’s the Future for Policy Enforcement and Network Probes?

Today DPI and policy enforcement (PCEF) are pretty much defacto requirements for existing and future networks. Without a capability to monitor, meter and charge for services, networks will ultimately collapse on themselves as the demand for bandwidth outstrips the operator’s ability to fund expansion – we’ve all seen the charts that illustrate the gap between exponential traffic growth, contrasted against flat ARPU.

The big question is how to deliver these capabilities at ever increasing levels of bandwidth, while meeting the scalability, cost and CapEx protection challenges of operators…in particular there is a significant difference between fixed and mobile today, and this will continue for a while yet.

Next week, I’ll be participating in a Light Reading webinar on this very topic. Along with Heavy Reading analyst Simon Stanley, I’ll discuss the pros and cons of each approach, highlighting both technology and commercial challenges and the role Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) products can play in addressing these challenges.

I hope you’ll join me for this exciting, forward-looking discussion by registering here today.
