RadiSys eXtended Media Processing™(eXMP) technology is the foundation for extending RadiSys’s proven carrier class IP media processing expertise to cover the entire range of media processing deployment options, from small enterprise point solutions running on third-party platforms such as Linux™-based servers, to solutions running on ATCA®-based hardware platforms, up to the largest carrier-class IMS multi-service deployments running on purpose-built hardware.
RadiSys eXtended Media Processing™ (eXMP™) technology provides the media processing foundation for all Convedia media server products. eXMP technology is hardware and processor independent, and is optimized to run on dual/multi-core general purpose CPU- or DSP-based platforms. With the introduction of eXMP technology, RadiSys delivers a one-stop shop for VoIP and IMS solution developers who require IP media processing solutions regardless of form factor/platform, control protocol, market, and application.
For the enterprise telecommunications market, eXMP technology gives access to the same media processing features, management, and control interface options available on existing Convedia media server products, while extending these capabilities to a broader range of deployment platforms.
RadiSys media processing solutions using eXMP technology include our purpose-built hardware media servers such as the CMS-9000 and CMS-3000 Media Servers, as well as the new Convedia Software Media Server which runs on various Linux platforms, including the RadiSys Promentum ATCA-4300 Compute Module.

One media processing technology for many deployment options
eXMP technology extends RadiSys proven carrier class media server features and functionality across all hardware platforms (Figure 1). eXMP technology can be deployed as a Linux based software-only product running on general purpose computing platforms, on blade processor products based on ATCA form-factors, or pre-integrated with Convedia purpose-built media server hardware with dedicated DSP resources. Customers can now optimally choose and scale platforms based on their requirements, while maintaining consistent server features and external interfaces, for a cost-effective, secure media infrastructure.
eXMP Core delivers increased resource efficiency, assured QoS, and lower cost per port
eXMP technology includes the eXMP Core, a component that sits on top of a real-time Linux operating system. The eXMP Core optimizes the assignment, prioritization, and process execution across available CPU and/or DSP resources available in any underlying hardware platform.
The eXMP Core increases resource efficiency, ensures quality of service, and improves cost per port.
Lower cost of ownership
Because eXMP is a shared technology for all media processing deployments regardless of size and feature set, implementation costs, integration costs, and scaling costs are significantly reduced, providing a lower total cost of ownership. eXMP technology can execute on an entry-level, off-the-shelf dual processor server, but can then seamlessly scale to blade or purpose-built hardware platforms.
Designed for the IP product programs of telecom solution vendors
Many telecom solution vendors typically offer a complete portfolio of VoIP products and applications, from entry-level IP PBX systems offered to small business, to IP Contact Centers for Fortune 500 companies, to large IMS solutions for global carriers. Since all RadiSys media processing products are based on eXMP, a telecom solution vendor can develop their VoIP or IMS application integration with a single RadiSys Convedia media server product, and then scale that integration development effort using any other eXMP-based product. For telecom solution vendors working with media processing suppliers, this approach lowers development, procurement, and ongoing administration costs.
