The Protocol-Specific Function (PSF) for the Signaling Connection Control Part (SCCP) Fault-Tolerant/High-Availability (FT/HA) software enables SCCP to execute in distributed fault-tolerant and pure fault-tolerant (active/standby) systems.
PSF – SCCP updates the standby copy with state changes from the active copy. In case of failure, the standby copy can assume operations with minimal disruption in the system.

Trillium PSF – SCCP software enables telecom equipment manufacturers of soft switches, signaling gateways, signal transfer points, service control points, media gateway controllers or other products to:
- Accelerate time to market
- Reduce development costs
- Reduce project risk of internally developed SCCP applications
Product deliverables consist of C source software, documentation, training, a warranty, and technical support.
- Supports the ANSI, ITU, Japan (JTQ.711 – JTQ.714), Telcordia (GR-246, issue 5), and China variants of Trillium SCCP in a single instance.
- Generates alarms upon failure during the PSF – SCCP operation.
- Generates debug prints if enabled by the layer manager.
- Supports the shutdown procedure, which resets the PSF – SCCP states and de-allocates the memory for PSF – SCCP operation.
- Initializes the Out-Of-Service (OOS) resource set with data from the active resource set.
- Provides the heartbeat mechanism to detect communication loss with the peer SCCP processors.
- Sequences the update messages to detect synchronization loss.
- Supports the Rolling Upgrade feature to upgrade the software, which allows upgrading a system to a new version of the software without taking the system offline or interrupting service.
FEATURES SPECIFIC TO A PURE FT/HA ENVIRONMENT
- Performs run-time state updates of the standby SCCP from the active SCCP.
- Supports the warm start procedure of the standby node and does not delay the processing of data traffic on the active during the warm start procedure.
- Supports the controlled switchover procedure (operator-initiated). This procedure makes the standby node active, and vice versa, without losing information.
- Supports the forced switchover procedure. Upon failure of the active node, this procedure makes the standby node active.
- Does not starve other system processes during the controlled switchover update and warm start update.
- Supports the functionality to abort an ongoing warm start state update or controlled switchover state update.
- Disables the run-time state update from the active node to the standby node, when the standby goes out-of-service.
FEATURES SPECIFIC TO A DISTRIBUTED FT/HA ENVIRONMENT
- Allows flexible configuration of resource sets (unit of distribution) in a distributed environment.
- Performs the run-time state update from the active resource set to the standby resource set.
- Supports the warm start of a standby resource set and does not delay the processing of data traffic for that resource set.
- Supports the controlled switchover procedure. This makes the active resource set standby, and vice versa.
- Supports the forced switchover procedure. Upon failure of the active SCCP resource set, the standby resource set is made active.
- Does not starve other system processes during the controlled switchover update and warm start update.
- Supports the functionality to abort an ongoing warm start state update or controlled switchover state update.
- Operates on multiple resource sets simultaneously, reducing the number of messages required to perform distributed fault-tolerant procedures.
- Detects a standby resource set going out of synchronization.
- Disables the run-time state update from the active resource set to the standby resource set, when the standby resource set goes out-of-service.
- Supports multiple SCCP resource sets (active, standby, and out-of-service states) on a single SCCP instance.
- Updates the message traces supported, per resource set, for enhanced debugging.
- Conforms to Trillium Advanced Portability Architecture (TAPA)
- Benefits of licensing Trillium software from Radisys
