Fulcrum Base / Fabric 10G ATCA Switch & Control
Connectivity for sophisticated applications such as Traffic Shaping, Internet Offload, Load Balancing or high-end Security Gateways requires an upgrade of the entire system from 1GbE to 10GbE – including switches as well as payload blades.
ATCA-FM40 is a second-generation 10GbE switch that addresses the needs of Long Term Evolution (LTE) and 3G wireless networks by using advanced Fulcrum “Bali” 10GbE switching silicon. The ATCA-FM40 delivers Layer 3+ features to implement powerful load balancing while providing higher port counts that deliver 10GbE to each slot and up to eight 10GbE external uplinks.
The ATCA-FM40 helps eliminate over-subscription and traffic congestion typical in carrier-grade wireless networks by balancing the uplink parts with the backplane fabric and offering the added benefit of low latency Layer 2 switching which supports advanced traffic management capabilities.
The ATCA-FM40 provides full 10GbE line-rate switching for 16 slots and 8 external links with a 240Gbps non-blocking fabric switch. The backplane interface supports PICMG 3.1 (option 9) 10GbE links for applications demanding maximum performance, but is also backward compatible with 1GbE links (option 1) for legacy products.
A separate 533MHz 440EPx PowerPC processor is dedicated to running Layer 2 switching software. The ATCA-FM40 is also expandable to include all the “core” platform functions, including a separate application processor and storage.
Designed to consolidate common switching and management functions for telecom applications, industry-standard ATCA-FM40 also features easy integration and flexible management interfaces.
