NEC Selects Radisys’ TOTALeNodeB Small Cell Software

Radisys’ award-winning small cell solution enters the outdoor picocell market, delivering additional capacity/bandwidth and coverage demanded by mobile subscribers

HILLSBORO, OR, U.S. – February 12, 2014 – Radisys® Corporation (NASDAQ: RSYS), a market leader enabling wireless infrastructure solutions, today announced that NEC Corporation, a leader in the integration of IT and network technologies, has selected Radisys’ Trillium® TOTALeNodeB™ small cell software to enable its LTE Small Cell (Femto/Pico/Microcell) network. Radisys’ field-proven LTE-TDD & FDD solution enables NEC to quickly deploy LTE small cells that help operators overcome the challenges of coverage and exploding traffic volumes by delivering improved signal quality and optimizing bandwidth for a high quality end user experience.

The shift to LTE-TDD for small cell deployments is being driven by consumers’ demands for downloading content on their mobile devices – particularly mobile video content such as Netflix or YouTube – anytime, anywhere. LTE-TDD leverages unpaired spectrum allowing downlink (DL) and uplink (UL) traffic to travel in both directions on the same frequency band. It provides a complementary approach to FDD (Frequency Division Duplex) which uses paired spectrum to allocate one frequency band for upload and one for download. Radisys’ TOTALeNodeB small cell software supports both FDD and TDD deployments, delivering a comprehensive LTE solution that can easily scale from small to large deployments.
