Media Server Markets

Video

Video is a powerful medium that adds interest and benefits to many forms of real–time telecommunications including messaging, conferencing, recording/playback, and most recently video ringback tone applications.

Many video communication vendors today continue to build solutions based on an integrated "service node" approach, where the signaling, application logic, and media processing hardware are all integrated into a single solution. This approach not only constrains the reuse and integration of video capabilities with external voice, speech, or fax applications, but it is also inconsistent with open, standards-based architectures such as the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS).

RadiSys Convedia Media Servers (MRFs) were designed from day 1 to support multimedia applications including video based on an open, standards–based architecture. Feature-rich real–time video capabilities including video media playback, video record and playback, and video mixing (including continuous presence displays). More importantly, all these capabilities are exposed through open, standards–based interfaces, so that any application server (AS) in an NGN or IMS architecture can control the feature-rich video processing capabilities in the RadiSys Convedia media server, and integrate these capabilities into their multimedia telecommunication applications.
