Promentum ATCA-7400
ATCA multi port STM-1/OC-3 line card
Description
PRELIMINARY
The RadiSys ATCA-7400 is a complete line card solution consisting of the ATCA-1200 AMC carrier card, the AMC-7201 or AMC-7202 Single Mid-Size Quad-STM-1/OC3 AMC card and a comprehensive suite of data path and data control path software. The ATCA-7400 is designed to support multiple interfaces, supporting both unchannelized AAL5 and AAL2 data streams, as well as channelized TDM and Packet based data. In addition to data path software, the ATCA-7400 includes software that supports MPS/APS protection. The ATCA-7400 can accommodate up to three additional AMC-7201or AMC-7202 cards to scale support for additional connectivity or redundancy.
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The ATCA-7400 comes populated with one AMC-7201 or AMC-7202. It can be integrated with three additional AMC-7201/2 cards to enable a 16 x OC-3/STM-1 line card. It can also be integrated with other AMC such as; Security (IPSec/SSL), Processor, E1/T1 and /or other I/O AMCs to build an application specific blade, such as a mini-VoIP gateway with a DSP AMC and a Processor AMC.
Software
The ATCA-7400 comes complete with API’s running on the carrier board’s Local Management Processor (LMP) to provision the AMCs and manage data paths.
Provisioning API’s enables a System Manager to remotely load, start or stop and update an application running on an AMCs. Data control path API’s manage the PCI-Express™ switch and GE switch to enable AMC to AMC communication across the PCI-E as well as route IP data flows across AMCs or to the ATCA fabric respectively.
AMC CARRIER BLADE
The ATCA-1200 AMC carrier blade is a powerful ATCA solution that enables a user to build multiple ATCA modules with different AMC configurations, such as: PrAMC, Security (IPSec/SSL), Storage, I/O AMC, or additional AMC-7201 or AMC-7202 cards.
The ATCA-1200 AMC Carrier blade supports four 4 x Single-wide Mid-Size AMCs or two Double-wide Mid-Size AMCs. It includes support circuitry consisting of an MPC8548 PowerQuik III processor, the Local Management processor (LMP) to manage PCI-E and GE fabrics to the AMCs. The PCIE links are routed to each AMC via a PCI-E switch providing the means of supporting optional “un-intelligent” boards which allows an application running on the LMP to initialize the AMC device much like legacy PCI devices. The PCI-E switch also supports bridging function to enable AMC to AMC PCI-E communication or control.
The 26 or 24 port GE switch links up to five 1GE (number depend on configuration) coming from each AMC to the 2 x 10GE or 2 x 4 x 1 GE ATCA fabric interface. The switch routes 5 x 1GE to each AMC, 2 x 1GE port to the LMP and 2 x 10GE to support PICMG 3.1 opt. 9 backplane fabric connection. The board can also be configured to support 2 x 4 x 1GE, PICMG 3.1 opt. 3 backplane fabric connection. The base fabric is routed through the switch, providing direct connection of the LMP to the base, and allowing the LMP to control AMCs that don’t have PCI-E.
The switch is a fully managed switch, controlled by software running on the LMP. It allows data path management to and from the AMCs and the ATCA shelf for APS, data aggregation, tagging and other networking functions.
The Local Management Processor (LMP):
The LMP is a stand-alone processing entity. It features a PQ III running at 1.3GHz interfacing to a redundant pair of 64MB Flash for device configuration, Linux OS boot image and file system. The LMP can support up to 2GB DDR2 SDRAM. Its prime task is to run switch management software, data control path software, diagnostics and application provisioning software.
AMC Port Connection Support:
The ATCA-1200 AMC carrier blade supports: AMC.1 with 2 x PCI-E to Ports 4 & 5, AMC.2 with 5 x GE to Ports 0,1,14, 15 and 16 and AMC.3 with Ports 2 and 3 interconnected between AMC bays to support storage interconnections between bays. This allows processor AMCs to interconnect with storage AMCs on the carrier.
Ports 17, 18, 19 and 20 are routed to Zone 3 for optional RTM signal entry while port 12 of each AMC module is routed to the ATCA update channel for enter ATCA module signaling.
AMC-7201 AND AMC-7202
The RadiSys Quad STM-1/OC-3 AMC is the ideal AMC for your line card solution. Designed around state of the art NPU and communication chip technology the AMC-7201 and the AMC-7202 are a universal card that can support a multitude of interfaces including channelized or unchannelized AAL5/AAL2 for the Iub, Iur and IuCS links to RNCs; Ai, Abis, Ater and Gb links to BSC and TDM/HDLC links to the PSTN. Coupled with one of the available software package and RadiSys ATCA-1200 AMC carrier the AMC 7201 or AMC-7202 is supported with a complete set of APIs for data path, data control path, provisioning the card and APS support.
The AMC-7201 and AMC-7202 are Single Mid-Size AMC.0 (ECN002 pending) cards. The hardware design consists of a Quad OC-3/STM-1 framer that can support one OC12/STM-4, a Network Processor, memory, four (4) SFPs and an IPMI MMC. The AMC-7201 is a capable of supporting four OC-3/STM-1 un-channelized of AAL5, AAL2,or PPP data to IP.
The AMC-7202, extends the functionality of the AMC-7201 with the support of channelized AAL5 & AAL2, IMA, PPP, MLPPP, HLDC and TDM including DS0 grooming.
The fabric interface is capable of supporting UDP, TCP-IP, RTP and ITDM depending on the nature of the line data and the application.
Software Support
The AMC-7201 and the AMC-7202 come complete with software development kits in the form of Linux compatible API’s. API’s are design to provide the necessary function to set up connection of AAL2, AAL5, TDM, Frame Relay and others.
Line Synchronization Support
The AMC-7201 and AMC-7202 supports three line synchronizing schemes; loop back where a recovered clock is used to clock the line, free running or network reference from AMC CLK1. The module can also output the recovered clock on CLK2 for distribution across other line cards.
APS
1+1 linear Automatic Protection Switching is supported across AMC modules via update channels on the ATCA-1200, RadiSys’ ATCA AMC carrier blade.
IPMI Support
The AMC carrier blade includes an Intelligent Peripheral Management Controller (IPMC) to monitor its health as well as manage E-keying and hot-swapping in the ATCA shelf. It also manages the AMC’s hot-swapping, E-keying and reports the state and health of the AMCs back to the ATCA Shelf Manager.
STANDARDS COMPLIANCE
The AMC Carrier blade is designed to comply with a host of industry standards: PICMG 3.0 (AdvancedTCA), AMC.0 (subject to ECN002), AMC.1,AMC.2 and AMC.3, (AdvancedTCA Modular Card). With this level of industry standard compliance customers have a wealth of choices for AMCs to work with RadiSys to create innovative and new configurations to meet their market opportunity.
OTHER CONFIGURATIONS
Leveraging the flexibility of the AMC it is possible to configure the following ATCA modules. These additional configurations will be available in future.
• Pentium-M CPU Server Module
• Signaling (SS7/SIGTRAN) Adapters
• Security (IPSec/SSL) Module
• Media Processing Module
